The Middlesex High School wrestling team held its first home matches of the year on Jan. 14 and defeated Sussex Central 66-18, and Essex 60-24.
Sussex Central, had to forfeit on 10 weight classes due to a lack of competitors at the meet. Chris Brooks was the only “on the mat” winner for the Chargers with a pin in 51 seconds.
“We came out flat against Sussex Central, but really came to life when we wrestled a very good Essex team,” said MHS coach Lee Anderson.
Against the Trojans, Jay Bryant, Corey Keeling and Alex Pratt won their matches by pinning their opponents in less than a minute. Bryant won the heavyweight class in 35 seconds; Keeling pinned his opponent in the 215-pound division in 44 seconds; and Pratt won the 171-pound class with a pin in 47 seconds.
Cameron Wines continued his hot streak in the 119-pound class with a pin in 1:23; Chris Brooks won the 130-pound class with a pin in 1:25; Darrien Fisher won the 152-pound class with a pin in 1:27; and Craig Conley won the 189-pound division with a pin in 1:52.
“It was a great turnout of fans,” said Anderson. “They were very loud and supportive of the MHS wrestling team.”
The Chargers’ next meet will be January 28 at Franklin against Nandua, Sussex Central and Franklin.
