The Middlesex Senior Little League All-Stars edged Hampton Wythe 6-4 Sunday to earn their second straight win in the State Tournament at Pound in southwestern Virginia.
The Middlesex team (ages 15-16), coached by Jerry Crittenden and Chuck Walsh, now have a 2-1 record in the double-elimination tournament and are advancing its way through the Loser’s Bracket with hopes of reaching the championship round.
Middlesex will play at 6 p.m. Monday, July 20, against the winner of a game between Bristol and Mechanicsville.
On Sunday, Middlesex fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning against Hampton. Kevin Walsh and Mason Goodrich both pitched for Middlesex in the first inning, and were relieved by Harley Moore with two outs. Moore held Hampton scoreless the rest of the game and struck out 10 as Middlesex rallied for a 6-4 win.
Alex Crittenden had a double and a single to lead the 7-hit Middlesex attack. Moore, Morgan Thomas, Adam Baldwin, Shane Bristow and John Walsh added a single apiece.
