Middlesex golfers edge Mathews
The Middlesex High School golf team added another Tidewater District win against foe Mathews on Thursday, 181-183.
The Chargers improved to 4-0 in the district and 6-4 overall.
Pacing the Chargers was Alex Crittenden who finished with a season low 42. “Alex is playing good golf right now and he has remained the most consistent thus far,” said MHS coach Greg Harrow.
Jake Fletcher and Harley Moore both found early troubles but bounced back to turn in 45s. “These guys did exactly what we’ve been talking about all season,” noted Harrow. “They put the bad holes behind them and played hard the rest of the way in.”
Robbie Pitts had the fourth best score with a 49. “Robbie is young, but he works hard and is getting better every time he gets a chance, and it paid off for us today,” said Harrow.
Others competing in the match were Drew Pitts (50) and Mason Goodrich (60).
“This was a big win for us today and, hopefully, we can carry the enthusiasm and improved game with us the rest of the way,” said Harrow. “There are still some wrinkles that need ironed out.
The Tidewater District Tournament is September 22.
