by Larry Chowning

The Middlesex High School (MHS) wrestling team (4-3) competed Saturday in the Christmas Duals tournament at Lancaster High School.

The Chargers only team loss came at the hands of Tabb High School who defeated MHS 58-18. Middlesex beat Chilhowie 48-34; Northumberland, 54-16; Essex, 54-18; and Warwick, 54-27. MHS ended the meet in a three way tie in “Pool A” with Chilhowie and Tabb.

“The team wrestled tough and it was a good meet for us,” said Middlesex coach Joel Anderson. “We had terrific community support and it was good to see so many Middlesex people at the meet.”

Cole Ruark had the best day of any Charger. Ruark wrestled in the 160-pound division and was undefeated with a 5-0 record. Brock Parrish, Thomas Wilson, Parker Smith and Brayden Deel were all 4-1 in their weight classes.

Quinten Ritter was 3-2 in the 120-lb. weight division; Zach Salman, 3-2, 138-lb. weight class; Andrew Jekins, 3-2, 285-lb. weight class; Lakin Millen, 2-3, 132-lb. weight class; Caleb Bagley, 2-3, 145-lb. class; and Owen Miller, 2-3 in the 170-lb. weight division.

The Chargers next meet is after Christmas break on Wednesday, January 9, when they host their final home meet of the season against Windsor and Northumberland. The meet starts in the John S. Clements Memorial Gymnasium in Saluda at 4:30 p.m.
