Middlesex girls begin tourney play next week
The Middlesex High varsity volleyball team defeated King William in 5 games for a Tidewater District road win on October 24.
The Lady Chargers won the first and third games 25-20 and 25-18, while King William won the second game in overtime 26-24, and the fourth game 25-16.
The Lady Chargers triumphed in the fifth and deciding game 15-11.
“My girls played with better consistency and covered the court better than they have this year,” said MHS coach Jennifer Harrow. “The girls really played as a team.”
Angel Abbott, with 16 digs, and Morgan Blake, who had 3 aces, 4 kills and 13 digs, both “played extremely good defense,” said Harrow. Sarah Ann Goodrich, with 3 aces, 9 kills and 6 digs, “had some nice, strong hits at the net.”
Also for Middlesex, Erika Britton had 4 aces, 21 assists, 3 kills, 3 digs and 1 block assist; Austen Taylor Dozier, 4 assists; Carlee Browder, 3 kills, 1 solo block, 1 block assist; Shelby Lewter, 1 ace, 5 kills, 1 dig; Rachael Howard, 1 ace, 1 assist, 2 kills, 5 digs; and Beth Eanes, 2 aces, 9 kills, 8 digs.
The Lady Chargers visited Mathews on October 30 for their regular season finale.
The Tidewater District Tournament begins Wednesday, November 6, on the courts of the higher seed, which should be Mathews or West Point. Pairings were not known at press time.
