Middlesex booters host NHS Friday

Middlesex High School soccer is back in kicking form with seven returning players—Ean Reed, Trey Johnson, Clayton Colley, Mark Hall, Sierra Jordan, Chris Chamberlain, Cydney Fisher and Chris Brooks.

A strong supporting group of last year’s JV players includes Lauren Beebe, Erik Sosa, Owen Holt, Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Charnock, Stanley Redmon and Dominique Barrett.

Three new players complement the roster, Mario Kieselbach, Luciano Catanzaro and Schuyler Sibley.

Garrett Gregory, the MHS JV head coach, is doubling as assistant varsity coach.

The team made a strong showing at a recent home scrimmage against Lancaster. The match was scoreless going into the second half. With 17 minutes left in the game, the Red Devils were awarded a direct kick on a Middlesex foul from 20 yards out. Goalie Schuyler Sibley edged the ball, but the ball met the net and the Chargers were down by a goal.

Chris Brooks had been working his fast-breaks and proved that the more attempts made will ultimately result in a finish. With two minutes left in the game, Brooks scored for the Chargers on a one-on-one with Brooks scooting the ball just pass the goalie into the right corner of the net, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.

Brooks closed the game with 8 shots and one goal. Owen Holt had 7 shots on goal, Mario Kieselbach had 6, Chris Chamberlain 5, Erik Sosa 3, Luciano Catanzaro 2, and Trey Johnson and Stanley Redmon each had one.

“Our defense is strong with Schuyler Sibley in goal supported by Carlos Gonzalez, Mark Hall, Clayton Colley, Lauren Beebe and Luciano Catanzaro,” said Charger head coach Scott Rae.

However, the MHS season has already been compromised by injuries. “Our players are mending,” Rae added.

“Fan support is encouraged and appreciated,” said Rae. “Come see this year’s Chargers.”

Middlesex will host Northumberland this Friday, March 27. JV games start at 5:30 p.m. and varsity games at 7 p.m.

On Monday, March 30, the Chargers are at Washington & Lee.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Chargers host Lancaster.
