The Middlesex High School boys track team won the Conference 42 championship held at Charles City High School on May 22. MHS scored 117 points to outdistance Mathews, second (113); Charles City, third (112); West Point, fourth (91); and King and Queen, fifth (50).

The most exciting race of the day was the 4 x 400 meter relay race where Mathews and Middlesex battled to a photo finish. The Blue Devils hit the finish line first in 3:55.35, and the Chargers finished second in 3:55.98. Trevon Hooks, Gregory Robinson, Robert Lemon and Kaleb Wake all ran legs on the relay for MHS.

Middlesex’s top 400 meter runner, Ridge Ellis, was pulled out of the 4 x 400 meter to run a leg on the winning 4 x 800 MHS relay team, which gave the Blue Devils some advantage in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

Ellis ran the fastest leg on the Chargers’ winning 4 x 800 meter relay team (9:08.85), which also included Simon Urban, Audain Tarik and Jacob Self.

Ellis and Wake paced the Chargers in the conference meet. Wake took first in the discus (130’) and shot put (41’5”) while Ellis was first in the 1600 meters (4:45.19) and 400 meters (53.31).

Robert Lemon won the long jump (20’2”) and was third in the triple jump (38’3”) for MHS.

Gregory Robinson was third in the 110-meter high hurdles (18.08), second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (43.73) and third in the high jump (5’6”).

Others to place for MHS were Steven Skelton, fourth, shot put (39’1”) and fourth, discus (105’2”); Jalan Morris, sixth, 100 meters (12.36) and third, 200 meters (25.94); Tarik, fourth, 800 meters (2:18.24); Self, fifth, 800 meters (2:22.82); and Johannsen Tanner, sixth, 3200 meters (13:30).

The Chargers will run in the Region A meet on Thursday, May 29, at Charles City. The meet will start at 2 p.m.
