MHS track teams eye district titles

The Middlesex High School girls and boys track teams participated in a five-team meet last week at Lancaster. 

In girls track, Lady Red Devils won the team competition with 98 points; Essex, second, 81 points; Middlesex, third, 68; Rappahannock, fourth, 39; and Northumberland, fifth, 13.

Rebecca Walker paced the Lady Chargers with wins in the 800 meters (2:57) and 1600 meters (6:15). Ashae Burnett won the shot put (35’4”) to round out the first place finishes. Burnett also finished third in the triple jump (27’7”).

Micah Reed finished second in the shot put (31’2”), second in the discus (80’4”), second in the high jump (4’6”), and fourth in the long jump (13’1”).

Jasmine Feels finished second in the 200 meters (33.3); Felicia Marsh, second, 400 meters (1:18); Olivia Cloud, second, 1600 meters (6:20); and Drachele Johnson, third, shot put (29’1”).

In boys action, Essex won the meet. Lancaster finished second, Rappahannock was third, Middlesex fourth, and Northumberland fifth.

Dale Smith finished first in the triple jump (40’2”) and in the 300-meter hurdles (46’6”).

Markus Hammond finished first in the high jump (5’8”) and fourth in the 100 meters (12.2).

Jeremy Rich was was second in the triple jump (39’4”), third in the high jump (5’6”) and third in the long jump (18’11”).

Hunter Banks was fifth in the 1600 meters (5:48).

The Chargers and Lady Chargers will participate in the Tidewater District meet on Wednesday, May 13, at West Point High School.
