The Middlesex High School girls tennis team defeated Windsor 7-2 on April 7 and edged Rappahannock 5-4 on April 9.

“We pretty much dominated the match against Windsor,” said MHS coach Pete Shepherd. “All the ladies played exceptionally well.”

Jessica Anderson and Amanda Pruett each won their singles matches by an 8-1 score against the Lady Dukes. Anderson is undefeated this season in singles action.

Stephanie Hutton won her match 8-3, Amanda Blake won 8-5, and Mindy Hurley won 8-3. Melissa Baltrusaitis lost 8-5.

In doubles action, Anderson and Baltrusaitis won 8-3, and Pruett and Andrea Stevens won 8-6. Hutton and Blake lost 8-6.

The 5-4 win over Rappahannock was important because the Lady Chargers lost to the Lady Raiders both times they played last year. MHS won five of six singles matches, but lost all three doubles matches.

Anderson won her singles match 8-3, and Baltrusaitis, who has been nursing a back strain, won 8-0.  Hutton won 8-2, Blake won 8-5, and Pruett won 8-4. Stevens lost 8-1.

In doubles play, Anderson and Baltrusaitis lost 8-5, Hutton and Blake lost 9-7, and Hurley and Stevens lost in a tie-breaker 9-8 (6-0).

The Lady Chargers will come back off spring-break and travel to Rappahannock on Wednesday, April 22, and to West Point on Wednesday, April 29. The matches start at 4 p.m.
