The Middlesex High junior varsity basketball team won the boys division of the West Point Holiday Invitational JV Basketball Tournament on December 27-28 with a 36-35 victory over King William in the finals.

“This was a rematch of last year’s tournament when we lost to the Cavaliers by one point,” said JV Charger coach Lamar Gresham. “We came out on top by one point this year in overtime.”

In the win over King William, the Chargers were paced by guard Alex Bullock and Mitch Curtiss, who each scored 9 points.

Middlesex made the championship game with a 45-29 win over the Charles City Panthers and a 44-20 victory over host West Point. “With these two wins, we set ourselves up for the rematch with King William,” said Coach Gresham. “I was real pleased with the way our kids played in the tournament. We are improving.”

Against West Point, sophomore Jaden Reed scored 10 points, and against Charles City Camren Hammond was high scorer for MHS with 13 points.

This Friday, January 5, Middlesex will travel to Charles City to take on the Panthers, and on Tuesday, January 9, MHS will host the West Point Pointers. Junior varsity games start at 5:30 p.m. and varsity games at 7 p.m.
