MHS JVs to defend district baseball title

The 2010 Middlesex High School junior varsity baseball team has some big shoes to fill. Last year’s team won the Tidewater District championship with an 8-0 league mark.
The JV Chargers return nine players from that title team—Stone Shores, Chris Chewning, Shane Bristow, Robbie Pitts, John Purcell, Jeremy Collier, Hunter Davis, Zach Belcher and Trey Major.
“This year I expect to have a very competitive team,” said coach Jonathan Norris. “We have a lot of talent on this team. We just need to put it all together and we will have a great year.
“We return only one of our pitchers from last year, but have some talented kids who will be able to step in and pitch for us,” said Norris.
Moving up from the JVs to varsity this year are premier pitchers Kevin Walsh and Morgan Thomas.
“We have a very solid lineup with a few kids who can hit the ball out of the park,” said Norris.
New players on the team are Taylor Walden, Calvin Rhodes, Andrew Dozier, Austin Cooper, Kyle Shelton and Kyle Lawson.
“We’ve got several newcomers who will help us this season,” said Norris.
The first scrimmage game is Thursday, March 11, against Essex in Tappahannock at 5 p.m.
The first regular season game is Monday, March 15, at home against Rappahannock at Deltaville Ballpark.
