MHS JVs improve to 9-1

The Middlesex High JV volleyball team improved to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the Tidewater District with district wins at West Point on September 23 and at home against King William on Tuesday.

The JV Lady Chargers rebounded from a 25-18 game one loss at West Point to win the next two games 25-20 and 15-13. 

Led by strong serving, West Point proved to be a challenge for the JV Lady Chargers, said MHS coach Meredith Holt. “The loss in the first game was disappointing for the ladies, but they pulled together for the win.”

Ashley Williams led MHS with 10 points, 6 aces, 3 kills, 9 digs, and 1 assist. Jessica Dixon had 7 points, 5 aces, 1 kill, 22 assists, and 1 dig.

Bridgette Self added 7 points, 3 aces, 7 digs and 1 block. Ivy Perkins had 6 points, 4 aces, 3 kills, 8 assists and 5 digs.

Also for Middlesex, Ally Sharpe, 2 points, 1 aces, 10 digs; Ashley Lane, 2 points, 2 kills, 2 assists, 16 digs; and Kelly Wilson, 1 point, 2 assists and 1 dig.

On Tuesday, the JV Lady Chargers easily handled King William 25-11 and 25-17.

“It was a team effort,” said Coach Holt. “I’m impressed with how the team keeps improving.”

Dixon had 7 points (4 aces), 2 kills, 8 assists and 2 digs. Perkins had 7 points (1 ace), 2 kills, 8 assists and 3 digs. Self added 7 points (4 aces), 1 kill and 2 digs.

Lane was good for 6 points (4 aces) and 6 digs; Sharpe got 4 points (1 ace), 2 kills and 6 digs; Williams had 3 points and 5 digs; and Joey Stinchcomb had 2 digs.

The JV Lady Chargers play three district matches over the next eight days. They are at King and Queen today, October 2; they host Mathews on Tuesday, October 7; and host West Point on Thursday, October 9.

JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by the varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
