MHS girls win district opener
The Middlesex High varsity volleyball team opened Tidewater District play Tuesday by defeating West Point in three games 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16.
The Lady Chargers (1-0, 7-2) also downed Rappahannock 25-17, 25-21 and 25-11 on September 24.
At Rappahannock, the Lady Chargers started off slow with 8 balls hitting the floor in the first game. After that, they pulled it together, cutting that number in half for both in the next two games combined.
Hayley Guess hit strong shots from the middle and Maggie Hall played a great defensive game, said MHS coach Jennifer Harrow. “This was our first game this season with all players recovered from injury and able to play.”
Kelsey Hainley dished up 3 aces and had 6 digs, 11 assists and 7 kills; Jillien Puster recorded 3 aces, 4 digs, 15 assists and 8 kills; Hayley Guess, 2 aces, 2 digs, 1 assist, 2 kills; Chelsi Blake, 3 aces, 5 kills; Raquel Pierce, 3 kills; Maggie Hall, 1 dig, 2 kills; Joey Stinchcomb, 3 kills, 1 block ending in a point; Chelsea Lewter, 2 aces, 7 digs, 1 kill; Caroline Davis, 2 aces, 1 dig; Ashley Williams,1 dig; and Ashley Lane, 1 ace.
King William visits MHS on Tuesday, October 6, for a district match.
Middlesex is at King and Queen on Thursday, October 8.
JV matches start at 6 p.m. and varsity matches at 7:30 p.m.
