MHS girls visit Devils Thursday

The Middlesex High girls varsity basketball team lost 49-46 at King William on Friday.
King William overcame a 9-point halftime deficit to tie the score 36-36 at the end of three periods. “They pressed us in the third quarter and my girls turned the ball over left and right,” said MHS coach Mike Lewis. “Turnovers killed us.”
Middlesex had beaten King William by 25 points at home on January 7.
“We need a greater level of intensity,” Lewis said. “We’ve dug ourselves a hole. We have to work harder and look forward to the tournament.”
Against King William, Micah Reed led the Lady Chargers with 18 points. With 8 points each were Ashley Williams and Megan Payne.
Jasmine Fells and Chelsea Lewter each added 4 points, Amanda Brown had 3, and Raquel Pierce 1.
Middlesex made 11 of 24 free throws and King William hit just 12 of 31 at the line.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to be at Mathews Thursday, February 4, at 6 p.m and at West Point on Tuesday, February 9, in their final game of the season.
However, the recent snow storm may affect the schedule. The game scheduled for February 2 against King and Queen in Saluda was postponed and has not been rescheduled.
JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
