MHS girls sweep Raiders

The Middlesex High varsity volleyball team split a pair of matches in recent action, defeating Rappahannock Tuesday night after losing to W&L on August 27.

Strong serves helped the Lady Chargers sweep visiting Rappahannock, 25-15, 25-8 and 25-14.

At W&L, Middlesex won the first game 25-7, but lost the next three games 25-21, 25-14 and 25-19.

“The girls played a strong game all the way around with few passing errors,” said Middlesex coach Jennifer Harrow. “Raquel Pierce and Chelsea Lewter were definitely on their passing game.

“Maggie Hall played with a lot of heart and got to balls that most wouldn’t have gotten,” said Harrow. 

Kelsey Hainley, Hayley Guess and Lewter all had strong net games.

Hainley, served 8 aces, had 5 digs, 6 kills, 8 assists, 2 single blocks and a double block.

Jillien Puster, dished up 4 aces, and had 2 digs, 15 assists and 8 kills.

Guess was good for 5 serving aces, a dig, 5 kills and 3 blocks ending in points.

Chelsi Blake had 3 aces, a dig, 2 assists, 8 kills, and 3 blocks with one ending in a point.

Pierce added a dig and a kill.

Hall had 2 aces, 5 digs and 2 kills.

Lewter contributed 6 digs and a kill.

Caroline Davis had an ace, a dig and 3 assists.

Ashley Lane hit 2 kills and was in on a double block.

The Lady Chargers will host Lancaster tonight, Thursday, September 3, and will host W&L on Thursday, September 10. JV games are at 6 p.m. and varsity games are at 7:30 p.m.
