MHS girls seize two district wins

Lyndsay Greene shoots for 2 of her 12 points in the Lady Chargers’ varsity win over Mathews on January 25.

The Middlesex Lady Chargers varsity basketball team improved to 5-3 in Tidewater District play and 12-5 overall with a resounding 53-29 victory over visiting Mathews on January 25. The Lady Chargers used suffocating defensive pressure throughout the night to secure the victory.

“This is the type of effort we will need every night if we are going to make a deep run in the playoffs,” said Middlesex coach Neil Wake.

Airiana Beverley led the Lady Chargers with 22 points; Amber Self added 14 points; Lyndsay Greene had 12 points; Taniaya Dandridge 3 points; and Allison Blake and Ellie McMinn 1 point each.

The Lady Chargers added another game to the win column on January 22 with a 52-25 victory at King and Queen. The game was never in doubt with the Lady Chargers racing to a 10 point first quarter lead and never looking back.

“The girls have a lot more work to do but this was a good step toward our end goal,” said Coach Wake.
