MHS girls open district play with two victories
by Tom Chillemi
The Middlesex High Lady Chargers varsity basketball team got on the winning side with recent Tidewater District victories over King William and King and Queen.
Jan. 10- Mathews
Jan. 15- West Point
On January 3, Middlesex came away with a hard fought 33-25 victory over the visiting King William in the opening district game for both teams. The game was close throughout but the Lady Chargers spurted away with help from their pressure defense, said MHS head coach Neil Wake.
This was the first win of the season for the Lady Chargers and came just in time as district play began, said Wake. “I was pleased with the effort and I want them to enjoy the win, but we have a lot of things to clean up for us to stay on the winning track.”
Middlesex (2-0, 2-8) will host Mathews on Thursday, January 10, and will host West Point on Tuesday, January 15. JV games are at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
