MHS girls host Pointers on Monday

by Tom Chillemi

The Middlesex varsity girls soccer team is 9-2-1 after battling Northumberland to a 2-2 tie on May 4, and defeating Essex 9-1 on May 7.

“Northumberland is a quality team,” said Middlesex coach Eric Smith. “We knew this would be an important game for our standings this year.”

Coach Smith said warm temperatures would be a factor in this game. Middlesex played with heart and determination the entire game and had the lead twice in this game. However, Northumberland never gave up and found a way to even up the score.

For Middlesex Emilie Smith had 2 goals and Payton St. Louis had a great assist from a corner that Smith headed into the upper left side of the goal.

Lady Charger defense was solid and led by Sarah Blake and some great saves from keeper Autumn McMeechan, who finished with 9 saves. “The tie didn’t help or hurt us and it proved that the girls are playing quality soccer and that we are improving each day,” said Coach Smith.
