MHS girls host Cavaliers in district opener tonight

The Middlesex High girls varsity basketball team will be looking for its first win of the season when it opens Tidewater District play on Thursday, January 3, against visiting King William. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at MHS.
In recent non-district games, the Lady Chargers lost at Rappahannock 49-41 on December 18, and were walloped 63-28 by visiting Lancaster on December 20.
Middlesex jumped to an early lead at Rappahannock, but trailed 23-17 by halftime. Grace Rutkowski led Middlesex scoring with 17 points. Avis Keeling added 8 points, including a 3-pointer. Nila Robinson was good for 7 points, Tambria Wake had 4, Gabby Hopkins contributed 3, and Brooke Rowe 2.
Lancaster controlled the boards in its win at Middlesex and also posted double digits scoring in all 4 quarters.
Keeling managed 12 points for the Lady Chargers; Rutkowski was held to 6, including a 3-pointer; Dana Hunter had 4 points and Hopkins, Robinson and Zinnie Reed each added 2.
