The Middlesex High School girls and boys cross-country teams each crushed Essex 15-50 on October 21 in the teams’ regular season finales. The lowest score obtainable in cross country is 15 points, and low score wins in cross-country.
Middlesex’s Missy Hall won the girls race with a time of 21:32. Olivia Cloud was second in 22:29; Rebecca Walker, third, 23:09; Stephanie Hutton, fourth, 24:03; and Lindsay Harrow, fifth, 24:32.
Eighth-grader Quinlan Moore finished second in the race with a time of 22:21. Since she is a junior varsity runner, her time does not count in the varsity score. Another JV runner, Leigh Harrow finished sixth overall with a time of 24:39.
Others to finish for the Lady Chargers were Lauren Beebe (27:43); Judith Keifer (30:06); Shannon Bristow (32:57); Sabine Helbrecht (37:50); and Cydney Fisher (38:05).
Middlesex’s Kevin Walsh won the boys race with a time of 19:01. John Walsh was second in 20:06; Shane Bristow, third, 20:35; Jeremiah Morris, fourth, 21:27; and John Shaw, fifth, 21:30.
Other MHS runners to finish were Terrance Burse (22:58); Darrien Fisher (24:51); Lee Roberts (25:53); Dylan Kellar (26:45); and Nathaniel Francis (32:55).
The MHS girls team finished its regular season 7-0 in Tidewater District competition and 10-1 overall. The only team to beat the Lady Chargers was Lancaster.
The MHS boys finished its season with a 6-1 district record and a 8-4 overall mark. Mathews defeated Middlesex in district competition.
The Middlesex girls are favored to win the Tidewater District meet, which was held October 28, at Eastern State in Williamsburg.
Defending regional champion Lancaster and MHS are considered the top two teams in Region A. The Region A meet is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, on the Eastern State course.
The State Group A meet will be held on Saturday, November 14, at Great Meadows Park in Warrenton.
