MHS boys improve to 8-4-1

by Tom Chillemi

The Middlesex varsity boys soccer team is 8-4-1 after dominating Mathews 6-2 on May 7, and losing to King William 4-2 last week.

At Mathews, Charger scoring came via Aaron Akers and Derron Cooke with 2 goals apiece, Jack Ruark on a penalty kick, and a George Shaw goal.

Cooke got his fifth goal of the season when he chased down a loose ball and got to it before the Mathews keeper, who had left the goal unprotected in an attempt to scoop up the loose ball.

Ruark arched a penalty kick over a jumping keeper and just under the bar for his score, giving the Chargers a 3-1 lead at the half.

On May 2, the Chargers lost a tough match at King William 4-2.

Middlesex goals came from George Shaw and Raquan Marshall.

The varsity and JV soccer teams finish the regular season at West Point on Monday, May 14, with the JV game at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
