MHS boys advance to regional semifinals
The Middlesex High boys basketball team upset 3rd-seeded Colonial Beach 60-54 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Group A Region A Division I Tournament at Colonial Beach. The 6th-seeded Chargers now will play 2nd-seeded Surry in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 22, at Surry. The winner will advance to the championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, at Surry. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals by ripping 7th-seeded Franklin 71-41 Wednesday night.
In the other quarterfinal game, fifth-seeded Chesterfield Community defeated Charles City 66-61 to advance to the semifinals, and will visit top-seeded West Point at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Pointers received a first-round bye in the tournament.
The girls regional championship game also will be at Surry at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 23.
