Member-guest champs crowned
Piankatank River Golf Club’s annual Member-Guest Tournament was held June 28-29.
The two-day event started with the first two-man Par 3 Championship. In this format, each hole was converted into a Par 3, ranging from 17 to 200 yards. Each two-man team faced a myriad of challenging tee shots, including playing from the rough, over and in bunkers, across hazards, and from the collar.
At the conclusion, club member Mickey Healy and his guest, Toby Calloway, emerged victorious by recording a 57. They broke a three-way tie with a birdie on hole #17.
The second day of play had each two-man team competing in a best-ball format. Championship, First, and Second Flight Low Gross (LG) and Low Net (LN) prizes were awarded to the following teams:
Championship (LG): 65, member Larry Collier and guest G. Cochran.
Championship (LN): 57, member Rick Fulk and guest T. Leigh.
1st Flight (LG): 76, member Jerry McMurtrie and guest B. Southerland.
1st Flight (LN): 63, member Johnny Fleet and guest H. Apsley.
2nd Flight (LG): 80, member Ralph Pritchard and guest J. Cummings.
2nd Flight (LN): 63, member Gary Richardson and guest R. Melancon.
At the conclusion of golf, members and their guests enjoyed an exquisite evening of spirits, entertainment, and a first-class cuisine crafted by executive chef David Coontz.
