Mathews edges Lady Chargers
by Tom Chillemi
The Middlesex High varsity girls basketball team fell to 4-2 in Tidewater District play with a 45-40 loss at Mathews on Monday.
A Lady Chargers’ win in that game would have put them in a tie for first place. However, Middlesex got off to a slow start and the Blue Devils took full advantage by taking an early 10-point lead.
“I should have stopped the bleeding sooner but this team has shown so much resolve over the course of this year and they always continue to fight,” said Lady Charger coach Neil Wake.
On Thursday, January 31, the Lady Chargers will play at West Point. On Friday, February 8, at 6 p.m., only the varsity Lady Chargers will host King and Queen, which does not have a JV team. It is a make-up game for the varsity and is the last home game and will be Senior Night.
The girls Region A Tournament will begin on Thursday, February 21, with the finals on Saturday, February 23, at Lancaster High.
