Mariners to host VBL championship Sunday

The Middle Peninsula Mariners (14-2, 16-2) will host the Virginia Baseball League (VBL) championship game Sunday, August 9, at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, August 8, at 10 a.m., Middle Peninsula will take on the Tappahannock Tigers at Essex High School in first-round playoff action.

Due to rainouts last weekend, the entire first round of the double-elimination tournament will be held at Essex High School in Tappahannock on Saturday.

Tickets to Sunday’s games at Deltaville Ballpark will be $5 for adults; kids 12 and under are admitted free.

The Mariners won the regular season title of the VBL and are seeded number one in the tournament. The Mariners are the defending VBL champions.

  • Game 2—12:30 p.m. (#3) Braves vs. (#2) Tides

  • Game 4—6:30 p.m. Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2

  • Sunday, August 9, at Deltaville Ballpark

  • Game 5—1:30 p.m. Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3
