Mariners capture Virginia Baseball League title

The Middle Peninsula Mariners defeated the Tappahannock Tides 8-4 Sunday at Deltaville Ball Park to claim their second straight Virginia Baseball League (VBL) tournament championship.

Earlier in the tournament, the Mariners downed the Richmond Braves 8-2 and the Tappahannock Tigers 6-1.

The Mariners finished the season with a 14-2 league record and overall mark of 19-2.

The Mariners also were regular season champions of the VBL.
