Lockley scores 44 in MHS loss to Drifters

The Middlesex High varsity basketball team fell behind early and lost 69-61 last Friday at Colonial Beach.
The Chargers trailed 15-9 after the first quarter and then played the Drifters on even terms the rest of the game.
“We did a good job to climb back into the game,” said MHS coach Chris Walker. “We just could not take the lead from them.”
Middlesex All-State forward Ryheem Lockley scored 44 points to lead the Chargers; Timothy Balderson added 8 points; Bryant Gresham had 6; and Brett Carter and JD Diggs contributed 2 apiece.
On December 5, the Chargers (0-4) suffered a poor shooting night and fell 75-42 to Lancaster at MHS in Saluda.
Lockley led MHS with 17 points, Diggs had 11, Cullen Johnson and Gresham 4 apiece, and Carter and Balderson 3 apiece.
Middlesex will visit Rappahannock this Friday, December 14; will visit Lancaster on Tuesday, December 18; and will host Rappahannock on Thursday, December 20, in their last game before the winter break.
JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
Middlesex will begin Tidewater District play in January. The Chargers visit King William on January 4; host King and Queen on January 8; visit Mathews on January 11; visit West Point on January 14; host King William on January 22; visit King and Queen on January 25; host Mathews on January 29; and host West Point on February 1.
