Carole Lloyd had two solid days of golf to capture her 8th Ladies Club Championship with an 83-79—162.
Jimmy Pitts had to battle an early back injury, which made it difficult for him to move, but he played well and defended his Senior Club Championship with an 80-83—163.
It came down to the last hole of the competition in the Men’s Club Championship. There was a three-way tie between Larry Collier, Chris Hudgins and Greg Harrow. After a wayward tee shot, Hudgins had to lay up on his second shot. Both Collier and Harrow hit good second shots to the green.
Harrow had a 30-foot uphill putt with movement to the right. Collier was just to the right of the pin about 20 feet with a slippery downhill putt.
Harrow showed great confidence in sinking his putt for a birdie 3 as the crowd watched and cheered.
Collier still had a chance to tie Harrow and send the tournament into a playoff. He made a confident stroke but it wasn’t meant to be as the putt slipped by the hole.
Harrow was the new Piankatank River Golf Club Champion for 2009 with a final score of 84-77—161.
