Legion Post 241 is state runnerup

The American Legion Post 241 G team of Middlesex and surrounding counties finished second in the 2017 American Legion Junior State Baseball Tournament last weekend.

In the opening round of the tournament on August 2, Post 241 defeated Post 320 of Spotsylvania 12-1. On August 3, Post 241 squared off with Post 75 Gloucester, who along with Post 241 was the District 3 regular season co-champion. Post 241 came away with a 9-3 victory. 

In the semifinals on August 4, Post 241 matched up with District 5A champion Post 8 of Halifax and came away with an 11-1 win. Post 8 then went to the loser’s bracket where it defeated Post 21 of Winchester 11-4 to stay alive and put them in the finals against Post 241.

On August 5 Post 8 defeated Post 241 by the score of 14-7, which forced a final showdown. Post 8 continued its solid play defeating Post 241 6-4 in the final championship game.

Post 241 players and coaches thanked the C.C. Curtis Post 241 Commander William Bagby, the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) and Shorties Food Truck.

The team also gave a special thanks to manager Joey Fitchett and sponsors Revere Gas and Horizon Trust’s Buddy Moore.
