Lane Anderson breaks school shot put record

by Larry Chowning

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Lady Chargers track team defeated Charles City, King and Queen and Washington and Lee in a quad-meet on the John Lemons Memorial Track at MHS on April 23.

Lane Anderson paced the Lady Chargers with a win in the shot put and discus. The MHS sophomore broke the 2008 MHS shot put record held by Ashae Burnett. Anderson threw the shot 37’9” to break Burnett’s record of 37’4”.

“Lane has been hitting 38’ in practice,” said MHS coach Joel Anderson. “We have just been waiting for it to happen in a meet and she did it this week.”

This is the second Lady Charger school record to fall in two weeks as Katherine Campbell broke the MHS triple jump record last week with a leap of 32’10”.

The Lady Chargers will host Essex and Rappahannock at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2; will travel next week on May 9 to Charles City High School for a quad-meet; and will compete in the Tidewater District meet at Charles City High School on May 15.
