Lady Chargers sweep W&L

The Middlesex High varsity volleyball team swept visiting Washington & Lee in three games on August 31. The Lady Chargers fell behind in two of the games, but rallied to win 25-13, 25-22 and 25-21.

“The girls fought their hearts out,” said Lady Charger coach Brian Walton. “It was a huge win for our confidence.”

Overall the Lady Chargers served 94%, with 100% serving by Elizabeth Ketner, Abby Purcell, Haley Revere and Phoebe Walsh. Ketner had 3 aces, 6 digs and 1 assist. Purcell also had 3 digs. Walsh had 1 ace and 2 kills. Sarah Walton served 91% with 3 digs and 4 kills. Laura Walton had 12 assists and added 3 aces and 1 kill.

Lyndsay Greene played “awesome” defense and added 3 kills. Makenzie Bristow had 1 ace, 1 block and 5 kills. Airiana Beverly had 2 kills and a block and was “a beast at the net.” 

On September 5 the Lady Chargers defeated visiting Northumberland in five games. Middlesex won the first and third games 25-18 and 25-17. Northumberland took the second game 25-22 and game four 25-22, forcing the fifth and final game, which Middlesex won 15-11.

Middlesex (4-1) is at Colonial Beach on Thursday, September 7, plays at King William on Tuesday, September 12, and at Rappahannock on Wednesday, September 13. The Lady Chargers host Carver on Thursday, September 14.

The JVs play at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7 p.m.
