Lady Chargers rout West Point

With a 13-0 win on Friday against Tidewater District foe West Point, the Middlesex Lady Chargers varsity softball team improved to 2-0 in the district and 3-2 overall.
The Lady Chargers’ only losses have been to Lancaster.
MHS coach Wade Traynham said he hopes the team’s current winning habit continues as the Lady Chargers go into the heart of the district season.
Middlesex is at district foe King William today, April 16, at 5 p.m.
The Lady Chargers combined for 14 hits in the rout of West Point. Whitney Walton led Middlesex with 3 hits and scored twice.
Maggie Hall, Heather Blankenship each got 2 hits and scored 2 runs.
Raquel Pierce homered, singled and scored twice.
Pitcher Megan Payne hurled a no-hitter and struck out 10 Lady Pointers in the 5-inning game. At the plate, Payne had a hit and scored.
Amanda Brown and Chelsea Lewter each drove in 2 runs with hits. Olivia Wilder walked and scored. Danielle Montgomery and Susan Dunaway each got a hit.
On Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. MHS is at Mathews to meet the defending district and Region A champs, who lost just one player to graduation.
Middlesex will be at West Point on Tuesday, April 28, and will host Colonial Beach on Thursday, April 30.
