Mathews 47 - Middlesex 32
Mathews (21-3) held Mid-dlesex to only 2 points over the last 11 minutes and went on to defeat the Lady Chargers 47-32 in the championship game of the Tidewater District girls basketball tournament Friday night at King William.
Middlesex took a 29-27 lead with four minutes to play in the third quarter when guard Amanda Brown intercepted a Mathews pass and scored a layup. Middlesex forward Ashae Burnett added a free throw a minute later to give the Lady Chargers a 30-27 lead. However, the rest of the game was all Mathews.
The Lady Devils led 32-30 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Middlesex 15-2 in the final quarter. A 15-footer by guard Katrina Reed with three minutes left in the game was the only fourth quarter points for the Lady Chargers.
