Lady Chargers’ rally falls short

The Middlesex High varsity softball team dropped a non-district decision at W&L on March 28.
The game was closer than the 7-3 score indicates, said MHS coach Wade Traynham. “Any time you have the tying run at the plate when the last out occurs, you feel like the game is in reach.”
The Lady Chargers loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning, but could not score.
Fielding and base running errors dimmed the Lady Chargers’ chances, even though W&L produced only one earned run.
Freshman Avis Keeling, the lead-off batter, led the Middlesex offense with 3 base hits.
Other players getting their first varsity base hits were Abigail Foster and Beth Eanes.
Amanda White, Tambria Wake, Kaitlin Weber and Alexis Jackson also singled.
Weber went the distance on the mound, striking out 4 Lady Eagles.
“Hopefully, some hard work during the spring break will help us improve,” said Traynham.
The Lady Chargers are at Rappahannock on Tuesday, April 9, at 5 p.m.; and they open their Tidewater District season at West Point on Thursday, April 11, at 5 p.m. Middlesex is at Windsor on Tuesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m.
The Lady Chargers’ next home game is Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m. against King William.
