The Middlesex Lady Chargers girls basketball team finished the regular season at home with a 64-24 victory over the King and Queen Lady Tigers on February 8.
The win improved the Lady Chargers’ Tidewater District record to 6-2, and overall record to 6-12.
MHS finished as the second seed in the district tournament that began on Wednesday, February 13, when Middlesex hosted third-seeded West Point.
The winner will travel to King William for the championship game on Friday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. and play the winner of the Mathews-King William semifinal.
“We find ourselves in prime position and we have been playing well lately,” said Middlesex coach Neil Wake. “We need to keep our focus and play the game the way we practice to play every day.”
Against King and Queen, Brittin Payne led Middlesex in scoring with 13 points; Nila Robinson and Gabby Hopkins added 12 points apiece; Monica Ward and Dana Hunter, 5 points each; Shannon Bristow, Grace Rutkowski and Givonnie Reed, 4 points apiece; Tambria Wake and Zinnie Reed, 2 points each; and Avis Keeling made a free throw.
