The Middlesex High Lady Chargers lost 48-47 in overtime to Tidewater District foe King William Monday night.
The game was controlled by the host Lady Chargers for most of the night. However, the Lady Cavaliers continued to fight, coming from 10 points down to take the game to overtime.
The overtime looked good for the Lady Chargers when they took an early 4-point lead but the Lady Cavaliers fought back and pulled out the win at the end.
“We have to learn how to finish games,” said Lady Charger head coach Neil Wake. “The games are 32 minutes long and the effort we are getting is for 28 minutes. I have no doubt of the ability of this team. When we play for 32 minutes, it is beautiful to see.”
For Middlesex, Gabby Hopkins led with 14 points. Avis Keeling and Brittin Payne hit for 7 points each. Zinnie Reed, Tambria Wake and Breanna South each had 4 points. Monica Ward got 3 points. Grace Rutkowski and Givonnie Reed each got 2 points.
The Lady Chargers have three district games in the coming week. They are at King and Queen on Thursday, January 30. Middlesex hosts Mathews on Monday, February 3, and West Point on Thursday, February 6, in the final game of the regular season, which will be senior night.
