Lady Chargers down K&Q

The Middlesex High varsity volleyball team split a pair of Tidewater District matches, losing at King William in 4 games on October 2 and defeating King and Queen in 3 games on October 4.

Middlesex started off strong with a lot of energy at King William and won the first game 25-15. “Then, we seemed to become too comfortable during the second game and let them take it from us,” said Middlesex coach Jennifer Harrow. King William won game two 25-18.

The Lady Chargers started strong once again in the third game, which King William won 25-22. “With just a few strong hits from the King William, we started playing more on the defensive and less on the offensive,” said Harrow. “The girls have to learn to play to their highest level through all of their games.”

King William took game four 25-18 to win the match.

For Middlesex, Jordan Walton had 5 aces, 6 kills, 14 assists and 8 digs; Erika Britton, 2 aces, 6 assists; Chelsea Hall, 1 dig; Brittin Payne, 5 kills, 2 assists, 3 digs, 1 double block; Mollie Ballantyne, 4 aces, 5 kills, 1 assist, 6 digs; Madison Thomas, 3 aces, 7 kills, 1 dig; Angel Abbott, 4 digs; Sarah Ann Goodrich, 2 aces, 7 kills, 9 digs; Beth Eanes, 1 assist; Brooke Rowe, 1 ace, 2 kills, 1 double block; and Lauren Bleeker, 1 dig.

Middlesex swept visiting King and Queen 25-21, 25-11, 25-23 on October 4.

For Middlesex, Walton had 4 aces, 6 kills, 16 assists and 7 digs; Britton, 11 assists, 1 dig; Hall, 2 aces, 4 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs; Payne, 4 kills, 2 assists; Mollie Ballantyne, 3 kills, 1 dig; Lewter, 1 ace, 2 kills; Madison Thomas, 1 ace; Abbott, 1 kill, 2 digs; Goodrich, 1 ace, 10 kills, 1 dig; Eanes, 2 assists; Rowe, 7 kills; and Bleeker, 2 kills, 2 assists.

“We still didn’t play to our level, but were able to obtain the win,” said Harrow. “Some of the younger girls are coming out with less fear than the older girls when it comes to us being down on the score, which is very exciting for the years to come.”

Harrow added, “Morgan Thomas confidently went to the service line and had some great serves. Chelsea Hall had a great defensive night. Sarah Ann Goodrich and Brooke Rowe had a strong attack night.”

The Lady Chargers (2-1, 4-7) will travel to West Point on Thursday, October 11, for a district game.
