JVs have strong core of returnees

by Larry Chowning

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger junior varsity basketball team will open its regular season play at home against Lancaster on Thursday, November 29, at 5:30 p.m.

Returning head coach Lamar Gresham and assistant coach Kevin Reed will be carrying a 12-man roster with five players returning from last year’s team. Returnees include freshmen Camren Hammond, Phillip Hart, Jakim Lomax and Talon Cheatham, and sophomore Michael Barney.

Sophomores Nick Parker and Austin Hall and freshman Malachi Dandy are new to the team.

Middlesex has four 8th-graders on the squad—Brandon Barney, Jayden Kidd, Mike Hammond and Geion Reed—who moved up from the St. Clare Walker Middle School Seahawks basketball team.

“We are a fairly young team with seven of the 12 guys playing their first year on JVs,” said Coach Gresham. “Our new guys are filling in nicely and the team is coming together as a brotherhood very well. We are athletic and becoming a smarter team each day. We have the potential to compete at the top of the district.”
