JV Lady Chargers rally past Mathews to win conference
by Tom Chillemi
In the 2013-14 season, the Middlesex JV Lady Chargers basketball team finished the season 5-1 in Conference 42 and 12-1 overall. Their only loss was to Conference 42 rival Mathews 32-31 in January.
On Saturday, February 15, the JV Lady Chargers avenged that loss with a 27-23 hard-fought win at Mathews. “We knew that we would have to be ready for them, so we came out of the gate on fire and got great play from our point guard, Morgan Charnock,” said Middlesex coach Roy Self.
The game turned in Middlesex’s favor, thanks to the free-throw shooting of Rachael Howard, who made 4 straight from the charity stripe; and a great steal by Miranda Kimble, who made a layup and was fouled. Kimble went on to make her free throw, which ended the game with a 10-1 Lady Charger scoring rally.
“It was a great team win and I want to thank all of these young ladies for a great season,” said Coach Self.
