Turnovers and missed free throws hurt the Middlesex JV girls basketball team in a 29-22 loss to visiting Mathews on January 10. Middlesex led 16-12 at the half, but Mathews retaliated with a 9-point third quarter and 8 more in the final period.
Zariah Freeze, Miranda Kimble and Brianna South each scored 5 points for Middlesex; Raven Hammond hit a 3-pointer; and Kachae Cook and Morgan Charnock tallied 2 apiece.
Middlesex played visiting West Point to a 8-8 halftime tie and held on for a 21-19 district win on Tuesday.
The JV Lady Chargers (2-1, 8-5) are at King William on Tuesday, January 22, for a 6 p.m. game. The varsity plays at 7:30 p.m.
