JV Lady Chargers battle for share of district lead

With wins over King William and King and Queen in recent action, the Middlesex High girls JV basketball team is 5-1 in Tidewater District play and 12-2 overall with just two games remaining.

On Thursday, February 2, the JV Lady Chargers are at Mathews, which earlier handed them their only district loss of the season.

On Monday, February 6, Middlesex is at West Point in its the season finale. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

At King William on January 27, MHS led 23-6 at the half and cruised to a 40-24 win. “Our press worked really well and we had a high level of defensive intensity,” said coach Michael Lewis Sr.

JV Lady Charger Dana Hunter, a reserve freshman, had her best game of the season with 8 points. “She was active at both ends of the court,” said Lewis.

Zinnie Reed added 7 points; Gabby Hopkins hit for 6; Tambria Wake scored 5; Avis Keeling, Alison Bibee and Monica Ward each tallied 4; and Brianna South had 2.

On Monday, Middlesex defeated visiting King and Queen 50-6. Hopkins led MHS with 11 points; Hunter had 8; Bibee 5; Wake, Ward, Z. Reed and Kachae Cooke, 4 apiece; Keeling 3, and Giovonnie Reed and Andri Reed 2 each.
