Juwan Reed and Sherman Osborne led the MHS offensive attack, combining for 23 points. Freshman Jonathan Shearin scored 8 points, LJ King and JD Diggs tallied 4 apiece, Justin Smith had 3, and Malik Henderson, Shane Bristow and Darrien Fisher each scored 2.
For Northumberland, Aaron Lewis and Kyle Elmore combined to score 15 points for the Indians.
The Chargers used an 8-0 run to open the third quarter to push their lead to double digits.
“Our defense stepped up and made big plays to start the third period,” said Middlesex coach Jason Daniel. “We forced four turnovers in a row and scored off all four. It was a great team win and it was great that so many fans came out and supported us.”
Coach Trey Johnson has been working with the MHS guards to pressure the ball on defense “and it made a big difference tonight,” said Daniel.
The Chargers played Lancaster on December 9, and will visit Rappahannock on Thursday, December 17.
The December 7 game against Essex was postponed because the Trojans are in the state football championship game this Saturday. It is possible the December 15 home game against Essex also will be postponed. Also postponed is the December 22 game at Northumberland.
JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
