JV Chargers blank Drifters

Shane Bristow pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 17 to lead the Middlesex High JVs to a 6-0 Tidewater District win over Colonial Beach Tuesday.
With the win, the JV Chargers improved to 5-1 on the season.
Bristow also had 2 singles, 2 runs and an RBI.
John Purcell contributed a triple and a single and knocked in two runs; John Walsh had a single, RBI and a run; and Stone Shores and Zach Belcher each had a single.
In other action, the MHS JVs split a doubleheader against Group AA Grafton on March 31, losing the first game 5-3, and then shutting out the Clippers in the nightcap, 5-0.
The shutout win was a one-hitter. Morgan Thomas pitched 4 innings for MHS, allowing the one hit with 6 strikeouts Kevin Walsh came on in relief and struck out all three batters he faced.
“We played the second game much better,” said MHS coach Jonathan Norris. “The guys got clutch hits, and our pitching held Grafton, a Double A school, to one hit.”
In the win over Grafton, Shane Bristow doubled, knocked in 3 runs and scored a run; K. Walsh, Thomas, John Purcell and Jeremy Collier each had a single; Thomas and Purcell contributed an RBI each; and K. Walsh, J. Walsh, Thomas, and Collier each scored a run.
In the 5-3 Grafton win, Bristow pitched all 5 innings and struck out 9. “Shane threw a great game,” said Coach Norris.
Bristow also doubled and knocked in 2 runs, and K. Walsh and J. Walsh had a single apiece. J. Walsh scored 2 runs and K. Walsh scored one. Thomas also contributed an RBI.
The JV Chargers play at West Point today, April 9.
