The Middlesex High School junior varsity boys basketball team grabbed its first victory of the season, 59-27 over the King and Queen Royal Tigers Monday night at MHS in Saluda.

Andre Johnson led the JV Chargers with 23 points, Carnell Bagby had 14, Jamel Reed 9, Trevon Hooks 5, and Michael Epps and Kenneth Reed 4 apiece.

MHS coach Benny Burrell said that his team played well together and the scoring efforts of Johnson and Bagby highlighted the team performance. “Andre and Carnell stepped it up a notch and contributed greatly to our first victory of the season,” Burrell said.

The team will host Charles City in the John Clements Memorial Gymnasium at MHS on Friday, January 10. On Tuesday, January 14, the JV Chargers visit West Point, and on Thursday, January 16, they host Northumberland.

JV games begin at 6 p.m. and are followed by varsity games at 7:30 p.m.
