Jackson finishes regular season 9-3

by Larry Chowning

Middlesex High School (MHS) number one seeded tennis player Hannah Jackson finished her regular season senior year on Wednesday, May 8, with what she has been after since she joined the team five years ago—a win against the Mathews Blue Devils.

“Jackson has been our team’s No. 1 singles seed since her freshman year,” said MHS coach Matt Short. “She has always been a strong player. It was tough for her as a freshman playing against more-seasoned players, but she’s grown into an excellent tennis player.”

Jackson played a strong game against the No. 1 Mathews seed, who she lost to earlier this season, and came away with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Jackson ended the season with a 9-3 singles record.

On Wednesday, May 15, Jackson played in the Tidewater District singles tournament final against a Mathews player to determine who will move on to the Region 1A singles tournament.

In doubles action, the team of Jackson and Funk played in the Tidewater District tournament finals against Mathews to determine who would advance to the regional tournament.
