Henkel is Valley Baseball League Player of the Week

Campbell Henkel of the Woodstock River Bandits was named the Valley Baseball League D-BAT Player of the Week on Monday, July 22. Henkel is the first from his ball club to earn this honor this season.

Henkel was 2-0 in two pitching starts the previous week. On July 15 he threw 6 1/3 innings allowing just 2 unearned runs in his win against the Winchester Royals. He gave up just 4 hits and allowed only one walk while striking out 7.

In his second win that week, the River Bandits traveled to Strasburg where Henkel went 8 1/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on just 4 hits. He walked one and struck out 3.

Henkel has shown consistency down the stretch for the River Bandits as they remain atop the North Division and look to continue their run into the 2013 Valley League postseason. The junior cadet from the Virginia Military Institute has posted a 5-0 record in 8 games he started this season. He has a 2.20 ERA and has struck out 41 batters in 49 innings.

Earlier this season Henkel was named Valley Baseball League Pitcher of the Week.

Henkel is the grandson of Bob and Carolyn Henkel of Urbanna.
