Two Middlesex High girls scored points at the State Group A track meet Saturday at Radford University.

Freshman Missy Hall captured a 6th place in the 800 meters with a blazing time of 2:29.74, and senior Ashae Burnett was 8th in the shot put (36’1"). The Lady Chargers, the Tidewater District and Region A champions, tied for 31st at the meet with 4 points.

Other area schools to score points included: Lancaster, 5th, 30 points; West Point and Strasburg, tied for 7th, 27 points; Sussex Central, 14th, 16 points; and Charles City, King William, Altavista and Goochland, tied for 17th, 11 points.

Andrea White of Lancaster had an outstanding day by winning three events—the high jump (5’8"), triple jump (37’10"), and long jump (16’6") to score all of the Lady Red Devils’ points. White’s high jump effort set a new state record.

West Point’s Kierra Gaines won the 100-meter hurdles (15.72), was second in the high jump (5’6"), third in the long jump (16’6") and sixth in the 100 meters (12.9). She scored all 27 of the Lady Pointers’ points.

Clarke County won the girls title with 60 points.

The Middlesex boys did not have anyone to place in the competition. Riverheads won the boys title with 56 points.

Sussex Central was the highest finishing Region A team with 32 points, good for 9th place.
