Middlesex High freshman Missy Hall broke the Northumberland High School girls course record on October 8 with a time of 22:08 in the 3.2-mile race. The old record was 24:39.
“The course was a real test,” said MHS coach Bill Murray. “It was mostly on narrow paths through forest and had the steepest most difficult hill that the team has seen this year.”
The Middlesex girls won the tri-meet against Northumberland and West-moreland. Hall won the race, and Rebecca Walker finished third with a 23:36 clocking.
Olivia Cloud was sixth in 24:45; Lindsey Harrow, seventh, 25:00; and Stephanie Hutton, eighth 25:24.
In the boys competition, Northumberland won the team competition with 27 points, Washington and Lee was second with 30 points, and Middlesex finished third with 70 points.
The top runner for Middlesex was Kevin Walsh who finished 10th with a time of 20:52. Mark Hall finished 13th for MHS with a time of 21:52, John Walsh finished 14th in 22:10, and Austin Bushong finished 16th in 22:37.
The Chargers ran against Mathews and West Point on October 15 on the Blue Devils’ home course.
The Tidewater District meet will be held on October 22, and the Region A meet on October 29. Both races will be at the Eastern State Hospital course in Williamsburg.
