Grottoes eliminates Middlesex in State Tournament

Middlesex lost 2-0 to Grottoes Tuesday evening and was eliminated from the Senior Little League State Tournament at Pound in southwestern Virginia.
Middlesex, coached by Chuck Walsh and Jerry Crittenden, had a 3-2 record in the double-elimanation tournament and finished fourth among 16 teams.
Grottoes and Middlesex were locked in a scoreless duel until the bottom of the fifth inning when Grottoes scored 2 runs to take a 2-0 lead.
Middlesex had only 2 singles in the game, one by Mason Goodrich and the other by Harley Moore.
Pitcher Mason Goodrich held Grottoes to 5 hits and struck 2 in six innings of pitching.
As of Tuesday night, Mechanicsville, Grottoes and Dumphries-Triangle-Quantico (DTQ) are the three teams remaining in the tournament.
