The two-day Middlesex High School Football Camp will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 16-17, at MHS in Saluda.

On Tuesday, July 17, former NFL All-Pro running back Chris Warren will be at the camp along with his renowned Ferrum College coach, Hank Norton of Deltaville.

The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-14 and campers may still register at 7:30 a.m. on Monday at the camp, or by calling Tommy Hamilton at 804-815-6254. The fee is $15.

A contingent of former college coaches, an NFL scout, and a number of current local high school coaches and players will be on hand to teach the fundamentals of football to the campers. Attention will be given to teaching proper techniques for each position. There will be a motivational speaker each day, and at the end of the two-day camp each camper will be awarded a t-shirt.

Campers should dress in a t-shirt and shorts and cleats. Water and snacks will be provided. The camp begins at 8:30 a.m. both days.

Proceeds will be used to help support the Middlesex Colts Youth Football Association.

Chris Warren first played at the University of Virginia but transferred and played two years under Coach Norton at Ferrum College. In 1989, the Ferrum team featuring Warren and Coach Norton finished third in the Division III national playoffs.

Drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 4th round of the 1990 draft, Warren played 11 years in the NFL, was selected to three Pro Bowls, and rushed for a total of 7,696 yards, caught passes for 1,935 yards, and scored 58 touchdowns.

He also played for the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles later in his career.

Warren rushed for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons (1992-95) with the Seahawks, with a season-best 1,545 yards in 1994.

Norton coached Ferrum to National Junior College championships in 1965, 1968, 1974 and 1977.
